UMH wins Gold in badminton and Bronze in climbing in another week of the 2026 Spanish University Championships

During this week of competition at the 2026 Spanish University Championships (CEU), the Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH) competed in badminton, climbing, and karate, delivering particularly strong performances in the first two disciplines.
Badminton, held in Granada from Monday, April 13 to Thursday, April 16, brought the best results for UMH. Miguel Esteve delivered an outstanding performance, winning the bronze medal in the men’s singles event. In addition, teaming up with Ana Caballero, he also secured silver in mixed doubles, reinforcing his leading role in the tournament.
The greatest success came in the team competition, where UMH was crowned Spanish champion, winning the gold medal after an excellent collective performance. The team was made up of Biel Mascaró, Ana Caballero, and Miguel Esteve.
Meanwhile, climbing, held in Málaga from Tuesday, April 14 to Thursday, April 16, also brought success to the university delegation. Manuel Antonio Pastor Sánchez reached the podium with a well-earned bronze medal, marking one of the standout results of the week in this discipline.
In karate, which took place on Saturday, April 18 in Granada, UMH did not reach podium positions, although several noteworthy performances were recorded. Irene Lillo Jiménez finished fifth in senior women’s kumite (>68 kg), while José Joaquín Sempere also secured fifth place in senior men’s kumite (<84 kg). Meanwhile, Sofía Chazarra Cortés finished ninth in the senior women’s kata category.
In this way, UMH closes another week of participation in the 2026 CEU with positive results, particularly thanks to its performance in badminton and climbing, while looking ahead to upcoming competitions in other disciplines.
