UMH successfully concludes its calendar as host of the 2025/26 CADU

Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH) has successfully completed its calendar as host of the Regional University Sports Championship (CADU) for the 2025/2026 season. UMH hosted three disciplines—badminton, ultimate, and karate—demonstrating its organizational and logistical capabilities in university sports.

The cycle began on February 25 with the CADU badminton competition held at the Alicante High Performance Center. UMH delivered an outstanding performance, finishing second in the overall university rankings. In individual events, Miguel Esteve won the gold medal in men’s singles, while Biel Mascaró claimed silver. In the women’s category, Ana Caballero secured a silver medal. Additionally, the duo of Caballero and Esteve won gold in mixed doubles, and Mascaró together with José Antonio López earned bronze in men’s doubles.

The second event took place on March 11 at San Juan Beach, where the CADU ultimate frisbee competition was held, a mixed-gender sport. Only three universities participated: the Polytechnic University of Valencia took first place, followed by the University of Alicante (which also received the Spirit Award for sportsmanship), and UMH, which finished third.

The final event was held on March 14 with the CADU karate competition at the Elche Sports Palace. UMH athletes achieved notable results, with gold medals for Irene Lillo in women’s kumite (+68 kg) and Yolanda Ejarque in mixed kata. Óscar Ferri earned silver in men’s kata, while bronze medals went to José Joaquín Sempere (kumite –84 kg), Sofía Chazarra (women’s kata), and Irene Lillo, who also reached the podium again in women’s kata.

With the conclusion of these competitions, UMH closes its role as a CADU host for the 2025/26 season. From now on, the Healthy Campuses and Sports Office will focus on the Spanish University Championships (CEU), which will take place during March, April, and May in Andalusia.

The university approaches this final stretch of the academic year with the goal of continuing to achieve sporting success and representing the institution at the highest national level.
