The Universidad Miguel Hernández de Elche (UMH) completes an outstanding week at the Campeonatos de España Universitarios 2026 with podium finishes in tennis and strong performances across multiple disciplines

The Universidad Miguel Hernández de Elche (UMH) has completed another week of participation in the Campeonatos de España Universitarios 2026, held from May 4 to 10, with representation in men’s basketball, women’s handball, tennis, judo, taekwondo, and athletics, across venues in Granada, Seville, and Jaén.

In men’s basketball, held in Granada, the UMH team delivered a strong performance by reaching the quarterfinals of the championship. After advancing through the early stages, the Elche-based team lost to the Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña (UPC) 45–35, narrowly missing out on the semifinals but showing a high competitive level throughout the tournament.

Women’s handball also competed in Granada, where the UMH players were unable to progress past the group stage despite securing two important victories against the Universidad del País Vasco (EHU) and the Universidad de Granada (UGR). The team demonstrated strong performance and once again proved its competitiveness in one of the most demanding disciplines of the championship.

In tennis, held in Seville, some of the best results of the week were achieved. The mixed doubles pair reached the quarterfinals, while in women’s doubles Carmen and María earned an excellent silver medal after losing in the final to the Universitat de València (UV). In addition, the women’s team secured an outstanding third place nationally in the team event, reaching the podium and confirming the high level of UMH university tennis.

In athletics, held in Jaén, Nerea Moreno finished in seventeenth place in the 400-meter event, competing among the best university athletes in the country.

Meanwhile, in taekwondo, also in Granada, Belén achieved a commendable sixth place in the poomsae category, while in judo Claudia Morales narrowly missed the podium, finishing fifth in Spain in the -63 kg category.

In this way, UMH closes another intense week of CEU 2026 with very positive results—especially in tennis—and standout performances that reflect the high competitive level of its athletes in the national university sports scene.
