UMH Summer School Monitor Training Course: 9th Edition at the Elche Campus

Providing recreational and educational care for children in leisure and free-time settings requires not only dedication but also specific training to ensure a safe, inclusive, and enriching experience. With this goal in mind, the Miguel Hernández University of Elche is launching its Summer School Monitor Course, 9th Edition , aimed at students and professionals interested in education, children’s activities, and working with minors.

This course is specifically designed to prepare future monitors for the UMH Summer School , a project with over 20 years of history that was created to meet the needs of families to balance work and family life during the holiday period, offering children an educational, recreational and safe environment.

Educational objectives

The course aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully perform the duties of a summer school monitor. Its main objectives include:

  • To learn about the operation and organization of the UMH Summer School.

  • Acquire educational and entertainment skills for boys and girls between 4 and 14 years old.

  • Develop skills in conflict resolution and teamwork.

  • Train in basic pediatric first aid.

Course content

The training program for the Summer School Monitor Course is structured in the following modules:

  1. Role of summer school monitor (4 hours).

  2. Teamwork and conflict resolution (4 hours).

  3. First aid (16 hours).

  4. ICT in summer school (4 hours).

  5. Child and youth development and animation techniques (8 hours).

  6. Attention to diversity (4 hours).

  7. Development of an animation program for summer school (10 hours).
    This module includes a 5-hour preliminary seminar, in which instructions will be provided for the development of an activity schedule adapted to an age group chosen by the students, as well as 5 hours of independent work with supervision and online tutoring.
